What to do next

How to use Summarize PDF

  1. Drop your PDF

The text is pulled out of the PDF on your device. The page count and word count show right away.

  2. Pick length and format

Short, medium or long, as bullets (good for study notes), key points, a paragraph or a TL;DR.

  3. Press Summarize

With no AI model on your device you get the quick summary at once. Choose the small AI model (about 500–800 MB, downloaded once) for a written summary.

  4. Copy or download

Copy the summary or save it as a .txt file. Need only some pages? Split the PDF first.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is read in your browser and the AI model runs on your own device. Contracts, reports and school papers never leave your computer, and nothing is stored.
How long can the PDF be?
Any length can be read. The AI summary works on about 40,000 characters (roughly 15 pages) in full on a computer with WebGPU, and less without it. For longer PDFs the tool first picks the most important passages and tells you so. To summarize a long PDF chapter by chapter, split it first and summarize each part.
Can it summarize a scanned PDF?
No, a scan has no text layer and this tool does not do OCR. Run OCR PDF first and then summarize the result.
How good is the summary?
The quick summary shows the most important sentences from the PDF unchanged. The AI summary rewrites them in fewer words. It runs a small model on your device, so it can miss a detail: check numbers and names against the PDF before you rely on them.
Does it keep tables and images?
No. Only the text is summarized. Tables are read as plain text, and images and charts are ignored.
Which AI model does this use?
Chrome's built-in Summarizer (Gemini Nano) if your browser has it, or Qwen2.5 0.5B Instruct by Alibaba Cloud (Apache-2.0) run with Transformers.js (Apache-2.0) from Hugging Face, or a model-free extractive summary (TextRank) that always works.
