How to use Add Page Numbers to PDF

  1. Add your PDF

Drop the file or choose it. Every page shows as a preview with its number already on it.

  2. Set up the numbers

Pick one of six positions, a format such as “Page 1 of 10”, the start number, and which pages to number. Change the font, size, colour and margin, and watch the previews update.

  3. Save

Press Add page numbers. The numbered PDF downloads straight away; your original is not changed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I skip the cover page or start numbering later?
Yes. Choose “Skip first” to leave page 1 empty, or “Range” to number only pages such as 3-20. “Start at” sets which number the first numbered page shows, so you can start from 1, or continue from another document.
Can I write “Page 1 of 10”?
Yes. Pick that format, or choose Custom text and type something like “Report – {n} / {total}”. Roman numerals (i, ii, iii) work too.
What does “Mirror for facing pages” do?
For double-sided printing and books, even-numbered pages get the number on the opposite side, so numbers sit on the outer (or inner) edge of every spread.
Which fonts can I use?
The standard PDF fonts: Helvetica, Times and Courier, plain or bold. They cover Latin letters, digits and common symbols. Other alphabets, such as Cyrillic, Arabic or Chinese, cannot be used in the text.
Does it work on pages that are rotated or have different sizes?
Yes. Each page is numbered at the right spot as you see it, whatever its size or rotation.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The numbers are added in your browser and the file never leaves your device. There is no watermark and no sign-up.
