Transfer Files Between Devices

Move files and photos between your PC and phone in both directions with a QR code — no app, no upload, no cable.

Your files stay in this browser

The share folder is stored on this device only — in this browser's own storage, never uploaded to TabShed or anywhere else. Files you add stay here until you remove them (or clear this site's data). When you press Start, other devices get them straight from this page over a direct connection, so keep it open while sharing.

How to use Transfer Files

  1. Add your files

Drop files on the page or choose them. They are saved in this browser, so they are still here next time you open the page.

  2. Press Start sharing

A QR code and a link appear. Keep this page open.

  3. Scan it on the other device

Open the camera on your phone, tablet or another computer and scan the code. Check that both screens show the same 4-digit code.

  4. Preview and download

The other device shows photo thumbnails; tap to view an image or play audio and video, then download one file or everything as a ZIP.

  5. Use the phone as a remote

Switch the phone to Remote to play, pause, seek and skip videos, music and photo slideshows shown on the computer — handy for a TV browser.

  6. Send back or share text

On the phone, choose photos or files to send to the PC, or type a link in the shared clipboard. Scan again to share with another device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I transfer files from my PC to my phone?
Add the files on this page, press Start sharing and scan the QR code with your phone camera. The phone opens a page listing your files, and each one downloads directly from your PC. No cable, app or account is needed.
How do I transfer photos from iPhone to PC?
Open this page on the PC, press Start sharing, scan the QR code with the iPhone camera, then use Send files to the other device and pick your photos. They arrive on the PC page, where you can download them, zip them or add them to the share folder.
Can I copy a link or text between devices?
Yes. Once connected, both screens have a shared clipboard box: what you type or paste on one appears on the other, and links are clickable.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Files are stored in your own browser (IndexedDB) and sent straight to the other device over a WebRTC connection. TabShed only relays a tiny connection handshake, never the files.
Where are my files stored, and for how long?
Only in this browser on this device, until you remove them or clear the site data. They are not synced to any other device. In private or incognito windows they are erased when the window closes.
Why does it say it couldn’t connect directly?
This tool has no relay server, so the two devices must be able to reach each other. Put both on the same Wi-Fi network, turn off any VPN, avoid guest or hotel Wi-Fi (it often blocks device-to-device traffic) and try again. If it still fails, join the computer to your phone’s hotspot.
Can I use my phone as a remote control for videos on my PC?
Yes. Add videos, music or photos to the share folder, press Play on the computer, start sharing and open the link on your phone. In the Remote tab you get play, pause, seek, volume, next / previous, a list to pick from and a photo slideshow. In Chrome or Edge you can also cast the current item to the phone.
Is it an AirDrop alternative?
Yes, for any mix of devices: Windows, Mac, Android, iPhone, iPad and Linux. It works in the browser, so nothing needs to be installed on either side.
How large can the files be?
The sending device streams files from its browser storage, so size is limited mostly by free disk space. The receiving device holds a file in memory while it downloads, so very large files can fail on phones; send those one at a time.
