How to use Remove Background Noise

  1. Add audio or video

    Drop one or many MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4 or MOV files. Each is read on your device.

  2. Choose how much

    Standard suits voices with fan, traffic or room noise. Strong also removes steady hiss first. Mains hum (50 or 60 Hz) is found automatically.

  3. Listen before you save

    Switch between Original and Cleaned while it plays and move the Strength slider until it sounds natural.

  4. Save

    Download WAV or MP3. A video keeps its picture and gets the clean sound. Several files download together as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

How does it remove noise?
It uses RNNoise, a small neural network trained to tell speech from noise, running as WebAssembly in your browser at 48 kHz. Hum is taken out with narrow notch filters, and Strong mode first removes steady hiss with a spectral gate.
Which AI model does this use?
RNNoise by Jean-Marc Valin (Xiph.Org, BSD-3-Clause), compiled to WebAssembly by the Jitsi project (@jitsi/rnnoise-wasm 0.2.1, Apache-2.0). The 1.4 MB model is part of the page code and is cached by your browser, so it works offline after the first visit.
Is my audio uploaded?
No. Decoding, noise removal and saving happen on your device in a background thread. Your files never leave it.
What can it not do?
It is made for speech. It will not clean noise out of music, remove another person talking in the background, or bring back words that were drowned out. Very strong noise can leave a slightly processed sound: lower the Strength slider to keep more natural room tone.
How long a file can I use?
Up to 15 minutes per file (videos up to 400 MB). Longer files need more memory than most browsers allow. A 3 minute recording usually takes under a minute on a recent computer; older computers and phones are slower.
Can I clean the sound of a video?
Yes. The picture is copied without re-encoding and the cleaned audio is added back as AAC in an MP4. The video tool downloads once (about 30 MB) the first time you save a video.
